CAN WE TAKE A JOKE?
When outrage
and comedy
collide.

An award-winning documentary featuring interviews from some of the most famous comedians over the past thirty years discussing the growing threat to free speech and humor in the wake of today's cancel culture.

The Challenge
Create a digital strategy to market the film into the home entertainment window successfully.

Directed by Ted Balaker, Can We Take a Joke? provides a thought-provoking critique of outrage culture from the perspective of stand-up comedians, exploring the stifling effect it can have on comedy and the exchange of ideas. Famous names like Gilbert Gottfried, Penn Jillette, Lisa Lampanelli, and Adam Carolla contribute to the discussion. Korchula Productions tasked Warbasse with building the website to include art direction, design, and development.

A Responsive Approach

The most challenging time in the marketing lifecycle of a feature film is after its stint at the box office is complete. Film distribution and exhibition through the post-theater/home entertainment window vary widely based on the studio's marketing tools. Warbasse built a responsive website that works on any device, giving Korchula Productions the ability to reach the largest possible audience.

"What I respect most about Ted Balaker as a filmmaker is that he is not shy about making movies that force viewers out of their comfort zone. My job as a designer is to create environments that make users feel as comfortable as possible, and the place where consumers are most at home is on their phones." - Philip Warbasse (2021)
